Three poems of encouragement as the year begins ...
The Real work
It may be that when we no longer know what to do
we have come to our real work,
and that when we no longer know which way to go
we have come to our real journey.
The mind that is not baffled is not employed.
The impeded stream is the one that sings.
~Wendell Berry
........................................................................................................................................................
Everything you see
has its roots in the unseen world.
The forms may change but the essence
remains the same.
Every wondrous sight will vanish
every sweet word shall fade.
But do not be disheartened.
The Source they come from
is eternal, growing, branching out
bringing new life
and new joy.
Why do you weep?
That Source is within you
and this whole world
is springing up from it.
The Source is full
its waters are ever flowing.
Do not grieve; drink your fill.
Don't think it will ever run out.
This is the endless ocean
~ Rumi
........................................................................................................................................................
One ship sails East,
And another West,
By the self-same winds that blow,
'Tis the set of the sails
And not the gales,
That tells the way we go.
Like the winds of the sea
Are the waves of time,
As we journey along through life,
'Tis the set of the soul,
That determines the goal,
And not the calm or the strife.
~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox
